Pilates is a system of exercises created by Joseph Pilates in the first half of the 20th century. It was first used for rehabilitation and physical conditioning. From the 1990s it became widely popular, including among Hollywood actresses and other celebrities who valued it for a strong, toned body and a healthy back.
The principles of Pilates
Pilates is not just a workout. The method is built on six principles: concentration, control, precision, breath, centring and flowing movement. They help you do the exercises consciously and learn to control your body better.
The benefits
Regular practice strengthens the muscles and improves posture, coordination and mobility. It builds strength and stability throughout the body. Pilates also suits people of different levels: the exercises can be adapted to your physical abilities and individual goals.
It is this blend of physical work, breath and conscious movement that has made Pilates popular all over the world.
