How to ease tension in the neck and shoulders?

Neck tension can often be reduced through proper use of the arms and shoulder girdle. What we do in class In class we learn to direct the movement of the arms correctly and practise poses using wall ropes. The ropes give extra support, improve the mobility of the shoulder girdle, free the shoulders and reduce unnecessary tension in the neck. Try it at home: Utthita Parshva Hastasana Stand side-on to a wall, about an arm’s length away. Press your palm into the wall at shoulder height, keeping the arm straight. Keep the shoulder down, away from the ear, and breathe calmly for a few breaths. Repeat on the other side. This exercise helps you feel how the arm and shoulder work together and gently releases tension in the neck and shoulders.
